For the first time ever, Western Justice Center/Encompass is offering Creating Bias Free Classrooms trainings to the public.
Creating Bias-Free Classrooms trains teachers using live, improvisational theater to equip educators to build safe and inclusive learning environments. The program utilizes professional teenage and adult actors to bring to life classroom conflicts, offering teachers hands-on practice with effective techniques addressing bias-related bullying and harassment of students.
Schools are obligated to ensure that no student is harassed based on actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. Teachers play a crucial role in preventing and stopping homophobic bullying yet they do not get adequate training on how to intervene. Creating Bias-Free Classrooms offers K-12 teachers tangible solutions to harassment, homophobic bullying, and hate-behavior aimed at students who identify as (or are perceived to be) lesbian, gay, or bisexual.
Join us for this one-of-a-kind, rare opportunity. Participants will be treated to light snacks and will receive a certificate of completion.
We also have a training on April 11th at 5:00 pm on preventing racial bias. Purchase a ticket to this training and receive a $10 discount to the April 11th event.
