What is Deliberative Dialogue?
“Deliberative dialogue is a form of discussion aimed at finding the best course of action... The purpose is not so much to solve a problem or resolve an issue as to explore the most promising avenues for action. Thinking together involves listening deeply to other points of view, exploring new ideas and perspectives, searching for points of agreement, and bringing unexamined assumptions into the open..." http://www.scottlondon.com/reports/dialogue.html

Peacebuilding Brownbags, Townhalls
What are the Peacebuilding Brownbags and Townhalls?
The Western Justice Center Foundation has organized Peacebuilding Brownbags and Townhalls as public informational panels and capacity-building trainings with deliberative dialogue sessions focused on inter-group relations and violence prevention. The topics arise from ideas community members have identified as next steps in dialogues the Western Justice Center Foundation has organized over the past few years.
The Peacebuilding Brownbags grew out of the Pasadena Talks program. A yearlong spike in inter-group conflicts has since resulted in a rash of hate crimes and ten homicides in Pasadena, and The Western Justice Center Foundation was asked in Fall 2006 to serve as facilitator for an inter-group relations advisory committee convened by the Pasadena City Manager’s office to address this increase in inter-group violence. The Western Justice Center Foundation convened with the Advisory Committee three community dialogues in October 2006 on this issue. The Advisory Committee, renamed the Pasadena Talks Leadership Group, met monthly in dialogue from December 2006-June 2007 to discuss inter-group relations and violence prevention in Pasadena. The Peacebuilding Brownbags provide a next step in building a more comprehensive understanding of inter-group relations and violence prevention issues through the sharing of best practices and models and learning about available resources and how to access them.
