Pasadena Talks

A yearlong spike in inter-group conflicts has since resulted in a rash of hate crimes and six homicides in Pasadena. The Western Justice Center Foundation was asked to serve as facilitator for an inter-group relations advisory committee and to also advise the Pasadena City Manager’s office on the creation of a work plan to address Pasadena’s needs for involving community, civic and elected leadership in the process of responding to issues within inter-group relations.

Looking forward, the Western Justice Center believes it is possible to transcend the responsive nature of this intervention towards the development of a replicable model of prevention for racially diverse, small to mid-sized cities and urban neighborhoods in larger cities to address inter-group conflict. WJC continues to facilitate monthly dialogues between community leaders to prevent youth violence and develop innovative ways to create collaborative programs in the area of intergroup violence.
